Key Background :
Microsoft has added to its Surface family a new 12.3-inch Surface Pro device that aims to strike a balance between performance, mobility, and price. Priced at $799 and above, the device is specifically targeted at students, working professionals, and everyday users looking for a powerful Windows tablet with built-in AI capabilities.
In the heart of the new Surface Pro lies Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Plus processor, an 8-core ARM-based processor that supports next-generation AI features and enhanced battery life. The chip allows the device to qualify as part of Microsoft’s “Copilot+ PC” class—Windows PCs with native AI-enriched features like Recall, Cocreator, and Live Captions, all processed on-device without being too dependent on cloud infrastructure.
The 12-inch Surface Pro model has a 2196×1464 resolution LCD display with silky smooth 90Hz refresh rate. It ships with 16GB of RAM and is available in 256GB or 512GB storage. The tablet has a sleek, fanless body and substitutes the proprietary Surface Connect port with two USB-C 3.2 ports for improved compatibility and usefulness, such as support for two 4K external displays.
Microsoft has also launched a remodeled keyboard accessory at $149.99, which magnetically clips on for enhanced ergonomics. Though the Surface Pen does not come in the box, it magnetically connects in the rear of the device. On the camera side, it sports a front 1080p (full-HD) webcam and a relocated 10MP rear camera sensor, engineered for enhanced video calls and document scanning.
Pre-orders for the Surface Pro are now open through Microsoft and retail partners. Consumer availability starts May 20, with business versions available starting July 22. With its new ARM architecture and AI-based features, the Surface Pro 12-inch is set to be a strong contender in today’s productivity and education markets.
