Background

Tamworth Borough Council has rolled out a new “Tamworth place prospectus,” presenting the borough as a destination to invest, develop and do business.

Located in the heart of the Midlands, Tamworth is home to around 81,000 people and benefits from strong regional and national connectivity. The town sits close to the M42, A5 and A38, while rail services link Tamworth to Birmingham in as little as 15 minutes and London Euston in just over an hour.

The prospectus points to Tamworth’s established business base, visitor economy, rich heritage and strategic location, alongside significant investment already taking place across the town centre.

More than £40 million has gone into the town centre regeneration programme, including £21.6 million from the UK Government’s Future High Streets Fund, plus council and private investment. Projects backed by this funding include St Editha’s Square, Town Hall Place, Castle Gateway and the Elizabeth Bradford Business Centre.

The prospectus lays out several major opportunities for future investment. Ankerside, owned by the council, could see a broader mix of retail, leisure and residential uses.

Gungate, a 2.76-hectare regeneration site near the railway station, envisions housing alongside leisure and workspace options. Marmion House, a council-owned town centre site, is being explored for residential development.

Councillor Nova Arkney, portfolio holder for infrastructure and the local economy, said the prospectus brings together Tamworth’s strengths and lays out opportunities for investors, developers and businesses to be part of the town’s continued growth. Support includes advice, funding and planning assistance from the council’s economic development team.
