Anthropic Signs Allianz as Enterprise Client, Expanding Push into Business AI

Background:

Anthropic has added global insurance firm Allianz to its growing list of enterprise customers, marking another major step in the race to dominate the business AI market.

The AI research company said it will work with Munich-based Allianz to bring what it calls “responsible AI” to the insurance sector. The two companies did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

The partnership includes three main projects. First, Anthropic will make its AI-powered coding assistant, Claude Code, available to all Allianz employees. Second, the two firms will build custom AI agents that can carry out multi-step tasks with human oversight. These agents will help staff complete complex workflows more efficiently. Third, Allianz will use a system that records every AI interaction, so they can track tool usage and follow regulations.

Allianz chief executive Oliver Bäte said the partnership will help the insurer deal with key AI challenges. He added that Anthropic’s focus on safety and transparency fits well with Allianz’s aim to build customer trust while driving innovation.

The Allianz deal follows a series of large agreements for Anthropic. In December, the company signed a $200 million contract with data cloud firm Snowflake. It later announced partnerships with Accenture and Deloitte, giving access to its Claude chatbot to hundreds of thousands of consultants. In October, it also partnered with IBM to embed its models into IBM products.

According to a December survey by Menlo Ventures, an investor in Anthropic, the company now controls 40% of the enterprise AI market and 54% of the AI coding segment. This is up from 32% in July last year.

Rivals are moving fast as well. Google launched Gemini Enterprise in October, while OpenAI has been pushing ChatGPT Enterprise since 2023.

Investors now expect 2026 to be a key year when companies start to see real business returns from AI tools, making the competition in enterprise AI more intense than ever.
